A problem with the defrost thermostat can cause the freezer to fail to cool down to the desired temperature. Check to make sure it is at the right setting and, if it is not cooling, it needs to be replaced.
When the fridge is working but the ice maker is not, check to make sure the water valve into the ice maker is not blocked. If it is, use a hair dryer on the warm setting to slowly thaw the valve. Avoid applying too much direct heat to prevent damage to the plastic.
